Singapore

To some Singapore is a cosmopolitan city, to others a cultural kaleidoscope and to some it is just one big shopping mall. To me it is all of that and more. I have been there many times, yet always there is something different. I still find places I have never seen and glimmers of it's vibrant past. Thain Hock Keng temple used to be on the waterfront, but now it is surrounded by the business district. Despite the hustle and bustle nearby it is still quiet and serene. Clark Quay is still about food and socializing, but I haven't seen these "umbrellas" and the fountain before. Of course there is always shopping.
But what Singapore really is about is family and friends. Good times.

The Brommy

 What could it be....
 A bicycle? In a box?
 That looks difficult to ride.
Maybe it is some kind of unicycle?
But it fits in an elevator, with a friend...
And unfolds to become a Brompton bicycle!

I am glad I did not bring my bike to Hong Kong with us. There really is no storage and it would have been left in out on racks, partially exposed to the weather. But I missed riding but with nowhere to store a bike, what are you to do? The solution is a folding bike. We chose the Bromptons because they fold very compact, can be easily maneuvered when folded, are easily stored in a flat and have great attachments. It is not shown in the picture but there is a basket that folds up and detaches quickly to be used as a shopping bag!

Bonus Wibbles

Just because I felt like it!

Fresh Fish

While waiting for the return ferry a fishing boat pulled up to the pier beside us. Soon buckets of the days catches started appearing..

It was obvious the locals were expecting it and soon everyone was picking out their choice. I guess seafood was for dinner!

Peng Chau

This was taken on the ferry as we were just about to dock in Peng Chau. You can see the typical village houses in the background.
Peng Chau is a nice island with some very good trials on it. We were not dressed for a walk, we wanted to go to a bike store and a shop that sells aquarium fish. I miss my betta Fred! We came home with out a bike or a betta and with empty bellies. There is a good Dim Sum place in Peng Chau, but it was very busy and we decided not to wait around.

Kai To

There are two ferries here in DB. The main one is a big fast ferry and takes you to Central, the city centre on Hong Kong island. Then there is a small Kai To (no clue what it means yet) that takes you either around the peninsula to Mui Wo or to the island village of Peng Chau.  They are pretty much the same, but this is the Peng Chau one.
It is quite neat how the ferry captain just uses the engines to keep the ferry lined up and then you just walk on and off it. The only protection is the guy in the blue  tee shirt who watches to make sure everyone is fine and help if you need it. They are really great and very helpful, especially for people with strollers.
